New COMPAS talent!

We’re thrilled to share that Jes Reyes, an interdisciplinary artist, artist organizer, and professional teaching artist, has joined our team as an Arts Program Manager. She will oversee COMPAS’ Artful Aging™ and Access Arts programs and other offerings that bring creative experiences to people who face barriers to experiencing or participating in the arts.

“Jes brings a rare blend of organizational, analytical, and creative skills to the team,” said Dawne Brown White, COMPAS executive director. “The arts are for everyone, and her leadership as a program manager will elevate our ability to put creativity in the hands of people who face barriers that hinder their involvement in the arts.”

Jes has a long history of supporting individuals with disabilities and blending her background in social services with arts and culture. Building partnerships and embracing collaboration have been essential to this work. This includes having worked with COMPAS in the past to bring accessible art activities to Avivo when she managed their multifaceted art studio program supporting artists living with mental illness. Prior to joining the COMPAS staff, she was the Art Supervisor at Fresh Eye Arts, a progressive art studio for artists with disabilities and a program of MSS. In this role, she collaborated with her team to supervise the program’s studio practices, art employment services, and exhibitions at Fresh Eye Gallery, an intentional inclusive art space located in South Minneapolis.

Her previous experience also includes serving as an Artist Career Consultant with Springboard for the Arts and founding Moonplay Cinema, an artist-run project supporting and advocating for gender-marginalized filmmakers. She has a BA in Women’s Studies and Film and Electronic Arts (double major) from California State University, Long Beach. She also holds a Master of Liberal Studies from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Jes has a love for her family and pets, nerding out at art museums, traveling, and gardening. She identifies as queer, feminist, and punk.
