The 2020 COMPAS Teaching Artist of the Year

Every fall, COMPAS recognizes one Teaching Artist for their outstanding achievements and work, and this October, we are excited to recognize Anne McFaul Reid as the 2020 COMPAS Teaching Artist of the Year.

The past year has been a time of great change for everyone, and at COMPAS, those changes required enormous flexibility and perseverance from our Teaching Artists. Anne was one of the first COMPAS Teaching Artists to say yes to virtual programming and taught herself the process of planning and executing a remote program from the ground up. She was willing to try new formats and traverse unfamiliar terrain to continue bringing creativity to Minnesotans.

Even before the pandemic altered the way we teach and practice art, Anne connected with community members around the state at schools, libraries, senior centers, healthcare facilities, rec centers, and more. In the last year, Anne has directly engaged more than 600 Minnesotans over almost 200 contact hours (not to mention all the time she spent planning and preparing for her classes!) She taught residencies and workshops in Seed Art, Watercolor, and Garden Sculpture; constructed and delivered individual art kits, and even helped other COMPAS Teaching Artists develop their skills through professional development sessions.

For a few highlights of Anne programs and accomplishments over this past year, read some recent pieces about her on the COMPAS website:

We’re so proud to work with Anne and look forward to whatever comes next. If the past year was any sign, this next year is guaranteed to be both extremely challenging and extremely rewarding. At COMPAS, we remain dedicated to our mission of helping every Minnesotan unleash their full potential through creativity, and with Teaching Artists like Anne McFaul Reid, we know we can meet our goals.
