“Fiddles for Littles” (Rachel Calvert and Maura Dunst) brings joyful music instruction and performance to kids! We believe that children’s music activities should be fun, engaging, and inclusive. Our workshops will be a high-quality, fun, and engaging experience for children and their grownups.

Ms. Rachel is a vocalist and violin/fiddle teacher based in North Minneapolis. Informed by the Suzuki method, folk traditions, inclusive practices, and her own experiences as a professional recording and performing musician, she takes an adaptive, holistic, and joyful approach to music instruction. Her work has impacted Minnesotans of all ages, bringing music education to students as young as two as well as adults. She believes that the arts are an essential part of a well-rounded, vibrant life, and that music is a thriving thread in the fabric of Minnesota culture!

Ms. Maura is a classically trained violinist who now plays fiddle for several Minnesota bands, including the all-female bluegrass/Americana group The Foxgloves. She is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, composer, and arranger, and founder of the women’s/non-binary jam Collectiva. She values early exposure to music and opportunities for participants of all ages to use music to create meaningful engagement with their creative side.

The duo “Fiddles for Littles” programs will include “classic” English-language nursery rhymes and children’s folk music, but also explore the many languages and cultures that reflect Minnesota’s rich diversity. Learn basic music theory concepts while dancing, singing, and having fun exploring the fiddle and music history in a joyful group setting.

Witness fiddle playing, harmonies, and improvisation in action with audience participation and education!

Adaptable for different ages and abilities.
