Andy Jacobs is an interdisciplinary artist who works with the mediums of fibers/textiles, sculpture, drawing, and installation. Her work contemplates biodegradability, cyclicality, and explores the field of intrinsic relations found in ecology. As a self-taught weaver, she has developed a style of tapestry weaving that pushes against the rectilinear grid of the loom, and weaves forms that resemble cell structures, geological formations, mycelium, and other living creatures.
Based in her studio in the Casket Arts Building in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, Andy has lived on both coasts, earning her BFA in Fine Arts from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR, and her MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at Maine College of Art in Portland, ME. With a passion for education, she has taught many classes and workshops throughout the Twin Cities.

Intro to Wet Felting- Painting with Wool

In this tactile, hands-on workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of wet felting using colorful wool. Students will create a 2D wet-felted piece using wool roving, bubble wrap, water, and movement. (2-3 hours, 25 students max, great for ages starting at 9 years old)
Note: Wet Felting is a very physical process, and requires vigorous arm movements.
Intro to Tapestry Weaving

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of tapestry weaving on a small frame loom. We will play around with different colors and textures of yarn while making a small tapestry weaving, ready to hang on the wall! (3-5 hours or 1-2 sessions, great for ages starting at 9 years old)
We can make this a multiple-session residency if students want to learn more in-depth techniques, such as fringe, Rya knots, shape building, patterning, and various finishing methods.

Teaching Artist Statement
As a multidisciplinary artist working across many mediums, including fibers and textiles, printmaking, drawing, and nature-based ecological art exercises, my teaching practice prioritizes creating accessible, exploratory spaces where learners feel empowered to express themselves authentically. I believe that art-making is not just a skill but a process of discovery—of self, community, and the world around us. My art practice and teaching style are rooted in curiosity.
I am committed to inclusive, affirming creative spaces where risk-taking and play are encouraged. My goal is to nurture artistic confidence and critical thinking, and to help learners connect to their own creativity in ways that are personal, empowering, and lasting.
