COMPAS Offers FREE Creative Workshops to Help Minnesotans Navigate Uncertain Times
Arts Education Nonprofit Opens Its Signature “Home Studio” Program to the Public
(Saint Paul, MN) To support Minnesotans during this time of societal turbulence and economic pressure, COMPAS is offering its Home Studio program to the public at no cost. Home Studio is an online library of easy-to-follow, hands-on, creative projects and workshops led by renowned COMPAS Teaching Artists, who are among Minnesota’s most respected artists and educators. Home Studio projects require minimal space, training, and supplies.
“Right now, many people are living with stress and uncertainty,” said Dawne Brown White, Executive Director of COMPAS. “Offering Home Studio to everyone in Minnesota is our way of saying we see you, and your voice matters. Creativity helps us pause, reflect, and reconnect. That is why COMPAS was founded fifty years ago to ensure all Minnesotans have access to creative experiences that bring meaning and connection to their lives. We hope Home Studio offers a moment of comfort and inspiration to our fellow Minnesotans.”

The Home Studio collection includes over five hours of virtual instruction, providing meaningful ways to express creativity through storytelling, painting, poetry, music, dance, juggling, and more. The workshops are designed for all ages and experience levels and can be accessed anytime at compas.org/homestudio.
For fifty years, COMPAS has utilized creativity and the arts to assist Minnesotans in reflecting, healing, and connecting during some of the most challenging moments in our shared history, such as recessions, wars, and public health crises. The organization believes that creativity is an essential tool for both personal and collective well-being.
Home Studio was offered in a recent message to the COMPAS community of supporters, educators, and participants:
“With so much change happening in the world right now, we thought an art break might be just what our community needs. Because we know that art heals, we have a gift for you and everyone in Minnesota: the COMPAS Home Studio. This online collection of creative workshops, led by renowned COMPAS Teaching Artists, is now available to the public for free.
Home Studio offers a wide variety of creative projects, including writing poetry, creating paper mosaics, making hand puppets, playing drums, juggling, learning Haitian Ibo dance, and more. All of these activities are available online and can be completed from anywhere, with no special skills or supplies required.”
