Artistic Director Maria DuBois Genné founded Kairos Dance Theatre in 1999. Kairos (from the Greek, meaning the open moment), is a dance company spanning four generations, ranging in age from six to ninety-one years old. Kairos’ groundbreaking dance, music and storytelling program contributes to physical, emotional, cognitive and social well being by providing in-depth opportunities for artistic development, physical activity and community connection.

Join Kairos in celebrating the Harlem Renaissance through dance, story, poetry and music.

Professional Development

Maria DuBois Genné and storyteller Carla Vogel introduce a practical way to integrate dance and storytelling into curriculum, including how to get older adults involved from the community.

Residency

The Dancing Heart invites older adults to help co-create a new vision of dance—one that is inclusive of all ages, all bodies, and many different ways of moving. Over the past 10 years, hundreds of older adults have participated in the program, exploring the “language of dance” through movement improvisation, the interweaving of dance and story, and the collaborative development of choreography that draws on their memories and life experiences.

Workshop

Create dances and stories that celebrate the value of artistic engagement between people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
